Anne Steele

"[Historic Washington Heights] is a neighborly place. It is close knit." - Steele

Interview Abstract

Anne Steele recalls initially moving to the Historic Washington Heights community to provide assistance to her aging aunt. Thinking about the 20 years she has spent living in the neighborhood, Steele remembers spending a great deal of time at the Excelsior Club with friends and family. Today, Steele spends a large amount of time taking care of her grandson and loves to explore the city’s parks and museums. Also, she enjoys attending the Tabernacle Baptist Church due to its close proximity to the neighborhood. She discusses the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes in Historic Washington Heights and how the residents of those homes have fallen into place as a part of the community. At the end of the interview, Steele states that if she were to ever move she would look for a neighborhood just like Historic Washington Heights, because of its close knit community atmosphere.
