Mother and daughter currently living in Washington Heights.

Interview Abstract

Evelyn Jordan and daughter, Patricia Mackey, moved to Historic Washington Heights in 2002 into houses built by Habitat for Humanity.  They recall memories of attending West Charlotte Senior High, and Evelyn remarks that the school was not yet integrated when she attended.  They discuss historical sites in Washington Heights, such as the Excelsior Club and mention famous artists who performed there.  They also discuss the ways in which the neighborhood has changed, as well as how Charlotte has changed as a whole.  They reminisce on their days as teenagers and show and explain pictures of when they received their Habitat houses.  They also talk about why they decided to move to the community and their hopes for Washington Heights’ future.
